Hot Rolled ASTM A240 316 316L Seamless Stainless Steel Tube For Decorative Pipe
Both 316 and 316L are austenitic stainless steels containing molybdenum. Due to the addition of the molybdenum (Mo) element, their corrosion resistance, especially their ability to resist pitting corrosion caused by chloride ions (such as in seawater), is much better than that of 304 stainless steel. 316L is the low-carbon version of 316. The core difference between the two lies in the carbon content and its impact on the welding process.
In simple terms: If the project involves a large amount of welding and post-weld heat treatment cannot be carried out, 316L should be the preferred choice; if the main requirement is general corrosion resistance and there is less welding, 316 is a more cost-effective option.
